NHRA Drag Racing on ESPN America

They do race cars differently in America. Across the Atlantic, Formula 1 means next-to-nothing and the banked oval thrills of NASCAR and IndyCar provide State-side petrol-heads with their fix of side-by-side action. There is an exception, though…. Back in America’s Prohibition days, drivers who could perform a quick-fire getaway were highly-prized, and that’s the story behind Drag Racing: the discipline which prizes a fast start over a quarter of a mile.

These jet-fuel-powered monsters are like no other race cars to be seen on television and race to upwards of 300mph before crossing the finish line – deploying a specially-designed parachute to slow them down. Or, at least that’s the theory.

Tune in to see cars racing at a 100mph faster than Formula 1 machines on ESPN America.
